S3C: Using Service Discovery to Support Requirements Elicitation in the ERP Domain

[Context and motivation] Requirements Elicitation and Fit Gap analysis are amongst the most time and effort-consuming steps in an ERP project. There is a potentially high rate of reuse in ERP projects as solutions are mainly based on standard software components and services. [Question/problem] The increasing number of standard software services limits the consultants’ ability to identify relevant services and therefore negatively affects the reuse of these existing solutions. [Principal ideas/results] The work described in this paper focuses on providing support for consultants to identify existing solutions informing early system design. [Contribution] We have developed a tool-supported approach, enforcing reuse in ERP projects, based on Microsoft Sure Step and the results from the EU-funded SeCSE project. The SC approach is tailored to the needs of an SME company in the ERP domain. It supports their consultants in identifying standard software services fulfilling customer needs.
